Contest rules and terms

FreeKilt is run and funded by Scottish Kilt, which supplies every prize from its own catalogue. Entity name and registered address: [INSERT BEFORE PUBLICATION].

This contest is not sponsored, endorsed, administered by or associated with Meta Platforms, TikTok, X Corp or any other platform. You release each of them completely in connection with it. Any question about the contest comes to us, not to them.

FreeKilt is open to every subscribed customer, whether you have shopped with Scottish Kilt for years or registered five minutes ago. There is no purchase history requirement, no minimum spend at scottishkiltshop.com before or after entering, and no difference in treatment between new and existing customers. A free account is the only thing you need.

• Aged 18 or over at the time of entry.
• Anywhere in the world, except where entry or the award of a prize is restricted by your local law. Checking that is your responsibility.
• Not an employee of Scottish Kilt, an immediate family member of one, or anyone professionally connected with the contest.
• A free Scottish Kilt or FreeKilt account. No purchase, order history or payment method at any stage.
• One account and one entry per person a month. Duplicate accounts get all of them disqualified.

The same every month, with no exceptions.

Each contest is named after its month, for example the July 2026 contest. Entries and votes received after the closing time do not count. Only one contest is open at any time.

One photo with tartan clearly visible in it. If you are wearing the tartan, you need to be in the photo.

That is the whole rule. It does not matter what the tartan is on, and the product does not need to have been bought from Scottish Kilt. Every entry competes against every other entry in the same contest.

• One photo or video a month.
• JPG, PNG or HEIC for images. MP4 or MOV for video. 100MB maximum, 60 seconds maximum.
• A person reviews every entry before it appears, usually within 24 hours. We can reject an entry without giving a reason.

At upload you tick one box confirming three things. All three matter and we act on them.

1. 1The photo is yours. You took it, or the person who took it has agreed to this.
2. 2Everyone in it has agreed. This matters most for family entries. If a child appears, you are confirming you are their parent or guardian, or that you have that permission. We remove any entry where this is in doubt and we do not reinstate it.
3. 3You are granting the licence in clause 7.

You indemnify us against any claim arising from a breach of this clause.

You keep full ownership and copyright of your photograph. Nothing here transfers it.

You grant FreeKilt and Scottish Kilt a worldwide, royalty free licence to use your entry, credited to the display name on your account, for display on freekilt.com and scottishkiltshop.com, posts on our social accounts, and paid advertising and printed marketing.

You can withdraw an entry at any time from your dashboard. We remove it from our own sites and pause any active advertising use within 7 days. We cannot recall material already printed or already reshared by other people.

Winner pages stay online as the public record of the result. If you ask us to remove one, we replace the photograph and name with the contest result only.

Additive. There is no weighting and no judge's discretion.

Scores recalculate at least every 15 minutes. The three highest scores at closing time take first, second and third. A tie goes to whichever entry reached the score first, by database timestamp. A share only counts if the post carries #FreeKilt and is publicly visible when we check it.

• First. $200 USD to spend anywhere in the Scottish Kilt range, made to measure where the piece allows. A kilt, a skirt, trews, a jacket, cloth by the yard, a throw, a case for your pipes. Your choice, your sett. Shipped worldwide at our cost. Import duties and taxes in your country are yours to pay.
• Second. $150 USD store credit, same range, same terms.
• Third. $95 USD store credit, same range, same terms.
• Everyone whose entry passes review. A single use 10% discount code, valid 60 days, with no minimum spend.
• First place winners also. A 20% discount code valid for 12 months from the date of the win, with no minimum spend and no excluded products.

No minimum spend, nothing excluded. Credit and discount codes apply to anything in the Scottish Kilt catalogue, including made to measure pieces and sale items. There is no minimum order value, no qualifying threshold, and nothing held back. Credit can be used on one order or split across several until it is used up.

Prizes are awarded as credit against the Scottish Kilt catalogue and are not exchangeable for cash. Credit is valid 12 months from issue. If the credit does not cover the full price of the piece you choose, you pay the difference. If the piece costs less, the balance stays on your account. Where a specific sett or product is unavailable we offer alternatives of equal or greater value.

Materials. We name the material on every piece. Tartan cloth is premium acrylic yarn. Utility kilts are 100% cotton. Leather goods are genuine leather. We do not describe any product as wool.

We email winners within 48 hours of entries closing. You have 14 days to reply with your product choice, any measurements required and a shipping address. After 14 days with no reply we may award the prize to the next highest eligible entry. Made to measure items are dispatched within 3 to 4 weeks of your measurements being confirmed. Stock items ship within 5 working days.

We remove entries and disqualify entrants for purchased votes, automated voting, duplicate accounts, organised vote exchange, or submitting content you do not own. Fraudulent votes are stripped before entries close. Our decision is final. A first place winner cannot take first place again in the contest immediately after their win, though they can still enter, vote and place second or third.

Keep your login secure. Do not upload anything unlawful, hateful, defamatory or sexually explicit, and do not upload third party branding. We may suspend an account that breaches these rules. We aim to keep the site up but do not guarantee it, and share verification depends on platforms outside our control.

Nothing here excludes liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything that cannot lawfully be excluded. Beyond that we are not liable for entries lost in transmission, platform outages affecting verification, or indirect loss.

We may amend these rules where we need to. Changes are published here with a new date, and anyone entered in an open contest is emailed.

[INSERT JURISDICTION BEFORE PUBLICATION] law governs these rules and its courts have exclusive jurisdiction. This does not remove any protection you have under the mandatory consumer law of your own country.
